The Truth About Working From Home

I’ve been working from home for almost a year now, and like anything it’s got some pros and some cons. In this article I’m going to outline both the good stuff and the not so good stuff, which will hopefully give you a bit of an idea what to expect if you’re thinking of working from home in the future or if you’re an employer wondering what your employees are doing when they are working from home.  The first thing I would recommend that you do before deciding whether to start working from home is to have a look at the company culture.  Does your boss micromanage you? If the answer is yes, the chances are working from home will not work for you as the likelihood is your boss will not be able to deal with the loss of immediate control as working from home gives you greater autonomy. If your boss trust you and give you a great deal of autonomy anyway then you’ve got a better chance from the get-go. Then you need to look at your own personal needs. Some people think that working from home

The problem with social media.

As I alluded to in my previous post, I think the biggest challenge facing businesses today in the wake of COVID-19 is social media. But it’s not only challenging businesses, it’s challenging the mental health of every individual who uses it.  So, what’s the problem social media?  Put simply, social media creates a false narrative as to the way people lives their lives.  Take a quick scroll through any social media platform and you’ll see the great stuff that’s going on in people's lives and it’s fabulous that people sharing the great stuff that’s going on in their lives, but the problem is ultimately what people are not sharing.  Let’s start on LinkedIn. A quick scroll down your newsfeed and you’ll find at least one person who has recently been promoted, landed a great new job or is working from a very swanky looking office or location. What people don’t post is a day-to-day grind, nobody posts about the days where they get a piece of work dropped on them last minute and they don’t

How the workplace has changed since Covid.

Covid had a lot of unintended consequences one of them was that it’s seismically shifted the way people work and where they work. Long gone are the days of people working for a business which is within commutable distance on daily basis. Now, people have got the option to work for anyone, anywhere.  This has completely changed the goalposts for businesses as they can now bring people in that were previously out of area, massively widening the talent pool at who is available to work for that company.  However, it’s not all good news as people are now a lot harder to pin down in the workplace as many people work remotely it’s hard to  hold people accountable to tasks that need to be completed and naturally as a consequence of this things happen at a slower pace, decisions take longer to go up and down the decision-making ladder and ultimately change takes longer to implement.  People also want more out of the workplace. People want a sense of belonging from work which they would have pre

New Found Fitness Addiction

Covid-19... An unintended consequence; fitness for all! That’s right, maybe the only positive take away from the virus that’s seen the UK locked down for over 100 days is that it’s seen droves of previously sedentary people find a love for fitness and keeping themselves active.  Due to the lockdown rules, the most widely undertaken forms of exercise over the past 5 months have been running and cycling.  The uptake in running and cycling during the lockdown period has been equally due to the governments allowance/advice to exercise outside once a day and large amounts of people being furloughed/working from home during lockdown whom used exercise as a way of passing the time or getting out of the house. I think regularly doing any form of exercise is absolutely fantastic and there are lots of people that now have their lives back to some level of normal but are still regularly exercising, something they previously wouldn’t have dreamt of doing. However, a lot of these new found fitness

The One Thing You NEED To Eliminate From Your Life

It's January. That means one thing, everywhere you look you'll be seeing articles that tell you that you need to cut this or that out. Most, if not all of the advice is unfounded as generally speaking anything in moderation is sustainable. However, now and again you'll come across a life hack which can't be ignored. In the following post I'm going to share with you a life hack that I discovered around 2 years ago, have implemented ruthlessly and can now see the benefits in every aspect of my life. The life hack is more advice than an actual hack and its as simple as ELIMINATE ALL NEGATIVE PEOPLE FROM YOUR LIFE. As motivational speaker Jim Rohn famously said "we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with" so the chances are if you spend a lot of

What I've done here is I've came up with 10 things that both Men AND Women do which really p*ss people off! 1. Not Giving Way In Traffic - We live in the 21st century, we're all in a rush but what difference is giving way to one car going to make to your journey time? 10 seconds? People who don't give way in traffic are also generally the first people to go absolutely nuts when somebody doesn't let them out of a junction. 2.
