How To Maximise Your Energy

How To Maximise Your Energy.

Lacking motivation to workout or to stay on track with your diet? Don't worry we all do from time to time. Some of us deal with it better than others and battle through it, whilst others completely 'fall off the wagon'.

In this post I'm going to outline the most effective strategies that are most likely to help you get the most out of everyday. These are strategies that I use myself and although have no great amount of science behind them I firmly believe in from personal experience.
  1. Attack the day - Make a plan and stick to it! It starts by setting your alarm to the same time each day. I personally get up at 5:30am, drive straight to gym on a week day and get straight out on my roadbike at weekends.
  2. Get Shit Done - Instead of a 'To-Do' list have a 'Today' list. That gives you more accountability to actually get shit done rather than put it off and let it mount up. Chances are those tedious tasks won't take as long as you think.
  3. Be Nice, It's Infectious - There's nothing more energising than someone paying you a compliment or praising the way you've done something. Chances are if you're nice to people they're going return the favour and pump you up full of positive energy!
  4. Don't Be Afraid To Say No - Why do we always say yes to things we don't want to do or don't like? "Will you work late? Yes", "Do you want a takeaway? Yes", "Do you like your boss? Yes" STOP LYING TO YOURSELF! If it's not a 'hell yes' it's a no in my book. Keep some time aside for yourself, don't keep saying 'yes' to the point where you have no time for yourself.
  5. Reward Yourself - "You've lost 3 stone? Well done, great work go and treat yourself to a McDonalds for lunch!" Not words your ever likely to hear a coach or dietitian say but the point is if there's no reward for consistently working hard, what's the point in doing it in the first place?
  6. Have A Rest! - Lionel Messi, Chris Froome, Joe Root, Bill Gates, Steve Cook, Gordon Ramsey, Richard Branson.... What do all of these people have in common apart from being at the absolute top of their professions? THEY ALL TAKE TIME OFF! Chris Froome won the three week, 21 stage Tour De France last week with arguably one of the greatest victories in history. However, does Chris Froome ride his bike for 6 hours a day everyday of the week all year? No of course not, he'd be exhausted both mentally and physically. The same goes for all of the other famous names above. When you're tired you become an empty vessel and unfortunately you cannot serve anyone from an empty vessel!
  7. Smile! - Ever heard that saying 'if you smile, the whole world smiles with you'? Well if you haven't it's true. It's amazing how much more energy you have when you have a smile on your face.
